The Albanese government has again lost its lead over the Coalition as voters mark it down over its handling of key issues.

The Albanese government has again lost its lead over the Coalition as voters mark it down over its handling of key issues including the economy, immigration and law and order.shows Labor once more at level-pegging with the Coalition at 50 per cent on the two-party-preferred vote, while Anthony Albanese’s lead over Peter Dutton in approval ratings and as preferred prime minister has also shrunk.

On a two-party-preferred basis, both parties are sitting on 50 per cent, back to where they were in December and down from Labor’s 51-49 lead it has held since February. While the change is well within the poll’s 3.3 per cent margin of error, Freshwater director Michael Turner notes that with other findings in the poll, Labor’s recovery appears to have stalled.

At the top is cost of living , followed by housing and accommodation , health and social care , and managing the economy . Dr Turner said his poll was consistent with other published opinion polls in that “Labor is quite consistently polling below its 2022 election result” of a 52 per cent two-party vote, and a 32.8 per cent primary vote. The Coalition had a 48 per cent two-party preferred vote and a 35.7 per cent primary vote.

“Voters give Albanese and Labor strong leads on services, benefits and climate change. Dutton and the Coalition have leads in the areas of security, the economy and fiscal management,” he said.
