that much. I could barely make it to the end of my block. But it got easier, and in 2011, I got to the point where I could run a mile nonstop in 14:51.

In 2013, I was ready to get back on track. My journey picked back up again when I ran my first 5K that March. Just like when I was trying to get to a mile nonstop, running that longer distance felt horrible at first. Being a part of my local running community as well as the running community at large has given me a source of support and inspiration like no other. The peace and balance I find when running alone, coupled with the fun and camaraderie I get when I run with my friends, have helped me become a happier, healthier person in every way. I cannot imagine my life without running as a part of it.
