INGLEWOOD, Calif. – The feel-good story of Cooper Rush, the backup quarterback who could, all but ran out of steam Sunday against the Rams. The Cowboys’...
. Rush? He hung up the kind of numbers that would have only looked good to a Sooner fan this weekend.
Common sense dictates the Cowboys will no doubt need more against the Eagles than what Rush delivered against the Rams, who simply aren’t what they used to be. Matthew Stafford’s day looked less like last season, when he led the Rams to a Lombardi Trophy, than a flashback to his days in Detroit. For that matter, Rush didn’t get a lot of help from his receivers, either. Before a terrific double toe-tap catch in the third quarter that set up one of Brett Maher’s three field goals, Michael Gallup dropped a wide-open pass to kill a drive. CeeDee Lamb did the same. And that’s why they need a quarterback capable of rising above the foibles of his teammates. Or at least that explains paying Dak $40 million a year, anyway.
Now some of you out there – and you know who you are – have no problem with the prospect of Rush going out for his fifth straight start. Others think it laughable.
