Sky News can reveal the government will announce a $573 million package aimed at women's health, as Prime Minister Anthony Albanese claims the Coalition does not “represent women”.
"The Albanese government are announced half a billion dollars worth of game changing policy for women's health," Ms Wells said on Sunday. Some of the medicines will be made available from March 1, while the remaining treatments will be made available as"quickly as possible”.The government will be the first to add a new contraceptive pill to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme in 20 years, as well as new menopausal hormone therapies. The pills have cost women about $380 per year but under the new funding, could drop down to about $120 .
Mr Albanese recently claimed the Coalition “don’t represent women” in an interview with Michelle Grattan.“They certainly, if you look at the parliament, they don't reflect the general population. The female-focused healthcare funding comes after Mr Albanese promised $1.7 billion in further funding to Medicare over the next year to combat mounting public hospital pressures.
Recent polling has shown the gender divide has grown significantly in terms of voting preferences between young men and women.
