Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has lauded the government’s role in bringing inflation down just days after the Coalition lambasted Labor’s “fiscally unsustainable manipulation of headline inflation through subsidies”.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has praised Labor ’s role in bringing down headline inflation at a party rally just days after facing criticism from the Coalition on government subsidies.
“Our economic plan has prioritised helping people under pressure while also fighting inflation,” Mr Albanese told the rally. “Labor’s fiscally unsustainable manipulation of headline inflation through subsidies is a desperate attempt to try and cover up their economic failures,” the shadow treasurer said in a statement.
Economist Saul Eslake similarly said the drop in the headline inflation rate was “largely purchased” by the government energy rebates alongside an increase in Commonwealth rent assistance for pensioners and the petrol price drop. When addressing Labor supporters on Sunday, Mr Albanese highlighted Labor’s cost-of-living initiatives to alleviate price pressures for everyday Aussies.
