Anthony Albanese has revealed the financial cost of Australia's settlement with France's Naval Group after the Attack Class submarine program was scrapped.

The $90 billion submarine deal was scrapped last September by the Coalition as part of Australia's new AUKUS trilateral security partnership with the United States and the United Kingdom. "I'm pleased to announce this morning that the Australian government has reached a settlement with the Naval Group to conclude the Attack Class submarine program," Mr Albanese told reporters on Saturday.

"But the way that decision was handled has caused enormous tension in the relationship between Australia and France." "This is a fair and an equitable settlement which has been reached. It follows as well discussions that I've had with President Macron and I thank him for those discussions and the cordial way in which we are re-establishing a better relationship between Australia and France.

The Prime Minister said he wanted to"thank the Naval Group for the positive and professional way that it has engaged with Australian officials to reach this settlement"., saying the French should have known Australia had"deep and grave" concerns around the submarines and that Australia was prepared to pull out of the deal made in 2016.
