Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has revealed he is hopeful trade impediments imposed by China on Australian wine will finally be gone by the end of March.
Anthony Albanese has revealed his hopes for Australian wine exports to China after Beijing gave its strongest indication yet it would finally remove the trade impediments.
"The interim decision by China to reopen the trade, we expect to be followed by the end of this month... with a positive decision in line with the interim declaration that was made," Mr Albanese told reporters. "Australia will benefit from the economic activity that removal of these impediments will bring. But China will benefit by getting access to the wonderful Australian wines and so this is a win-win and I look forward to that decision coming in the next couple of weeks."
"I expect that not only will it reach the levels of $1.1 billion in value, it will top that," Mr Albanese said.China has made an interim determination that duties on Australian wine can be removed. We expect that to happen by the end of this month."I think there has been a build up and when I was with the Trade Minister in Shanghai at the trade fair at the end of last year... there was a great deal of enthusiasm about Australian produce and Australian products.
