Senior ministers defend Anthony Albanese’s actions, saying perks had been fully disclosed
reportedly seeking free Qantas flight upgrades directly from Alan Joyce while serving as transport minister and opposition leader, saying he wasn’t aware of other politicians making similar requests.
“If you are the transport minister and you are picking up the phone to one of the most important stakeholders in your portfolio, asking for a free upgrade … I am not aware of anyone else having done it,” Dutton said on Monday.The Albanese revelations surfaced in extracts from a book by the former Australian Financial Review journalist Joe Aston, which were published in newspapers at the weekend.
“I think it is a bit strange that Mr Albanese is contacting the CEO of an airline when he is the shadow minister or minister for transport,” he said.
