Labor does not stand a realistic chance of claiming Dutton’s electorate, marking the prime minister’s decision to campaign there as a mind games move.

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has pitched himself as the underdog on his first day on the 2025 election campaign trail, brushing off Anthony Albanese’s barb that his policies are copied from Donald Trump, as Labor uses its first day on the campaign to target the Coalition leader’s electorate.

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton was interviewed by journalists travelling with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese after they crossed paths in Brisbane on Saturday morning.Dutton and Albanese are also set to hold media events in Brisbane marginal seats, with the pair aiming to take back the three Brisbane Greens seats and battle in a few Labor versus Liberal mortgage belt seats.

“Given that we haven’t had a change government since 1931, of course we’re the underdog,” Dutton said on Saturday.
