Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Energy Minister Chris Bowen will meet industry and manufacturing representatives on Thursday as the energy crisis gripping the east coast shows no sign of abating.
understands there will be a series of confidential meetings in Canberra with worried stakeholders.
Opposition frontbencher Dan Tehan said Parliament needed to sit sooner so it could legislate short-term solutions to the crisis. He said part of the short-term response should be to pull the gas trigger, or Australian Domestic Gas Security Mechanism, which would force gas exporters to divert more product to the domestic market, to ensure adequate supply.
Former Liberal prime minister Malcolm Turnbull, who introduced the gas trigger, urged the government to limit gas exports for 90 days to ensure there was enough domestic gas for winter.when parliament eventually sat, refused to budge.
