Endorsed Liberal candidate for the seat of Albany Thomas Brough acknowledges the 'distress' his comments linking the gay community to paedophilia have caused.
A WA Liberal candidate who falsely linked the LGBTQIA+ community to paedophilia has apologised for the hurt his comments caused.
At an Albany council meeting in late February where the town's Pride Festival was being discussed, Thomas Brough said he wanted to draw fellow councillors' attention to the plus in LGBTQIA+,"Inclusivity is not always good because what it does include is a group of people called minor-attracted persons," Dr Brough said.
"I acknowledge the way in which I approached this issue has caused distress for some people," it read."My desire is to be an effective and engaged advocate for the entire Albany community.Dr Brough's comments had previously been criticised by Liberal leader Libby Mettam, who said they were "bizarre" and not an acceptable view to have in the party.
But pushed on the topic this morning, she refused to repeat the criticisms, saying her "comments are already well-reported in relation to this matter"."We have a broken health system, we have cost of living pressures and crime is spiralling out of control while this government is enjoying the largest boom in this state's history.
