A coronial inquest has been urged to recommend a global safety warning be issued for owners of a cruiser linked to an Australian boat-making dynasty.An inquest has heard the boat that claimed his life was "top heavy" and defectiveThe inquest into the death of Alan Beeby has heard the experienced mariner's 2008 Halvorsen Cruiser, Eliza 1, capsized off Seal Rocks on the NSW mid-north coast on January 26, 2020.
According to its website, Halvorsen Boats dates back five generations, with luxury vessels sold around the world, predominantly in the United States, Europe and Australia.The inquest was told that, from the 1980s, operations moved to Hong Kong then to mainland China to save costs. Eliza 1 was built in 2008 after Halvorsen boat building had moved to China.Before Ms Kennedy read out her own list of recommendations, Beeby family barrister Gordon McGrath asked her to include one of his own.The Eliza 1 was 42 feet, built in China and imported into Australia.Ms Kennedy made additional recommendations to the relevant maritime regulatory bodies in each state and territory to "contact each owner of a Halvorsen 40, 42 and 44 vessel registered . . .
