The country is experiencing a new wave of COVID-19 and Australians are noticing more cases around them. But most of us haven’t returned to wearing masks.
More than a third of Australians say they have noticed COVID-19 cases are increasing, but there isn’t the same level of concern about the virus as during previous outbreaks.
An exclusive survey, conducted by Resolve Strategic for this masthead, showed 37 per cent of respondents had noticed COVID-19 cases increasing recently, 23 per cent thought they remained about the same, while 30 per cent were unsure.Asked whether they had contracted COVID-19 in the past month, 14 per cent said they did and 84 per cent said they did not.
“Part of that is not having the clear cues from government edict and social pressure that there once was, for example, on mask wearing,” he said. Asked whether they were aware that the government had now advised that a fifth injection was available to anyone aged over 18 years, 80 per cent said they were aware of it while 20 per cent said they were unaware.
