Opinion All LIV Golf can offer is money: Maybe that’s all Cameron Smith wants
career prizemoney on the PGA Tour since his professional debut at the end of the 1996 season tops out at $175 million., has won. Even where Woods hasn’t been consistently competitive, let alone dominant, for a decade.
Smith appeared unconvincing, if his efforts during his winner’s press conference in the immediate aftermath of the sesquicentennial Open, wereleaving the PGA Tour. I mean, whoever concedes they’re gonna hitch a ride on Greg Norman’s 54-hole travelling Saudi circus extravaganza.
It says much that’s immense about the LIV International Series, that nobody’s ever prepared to stick their neck out say they’re in any way considering becoming directly involved, until after they’ve already etched their John Hancock on paper.Not even Reed proceeded with such bravery, where he’s now so enamoured with the concept of LIV Golf that he plasters their insignia everywhere on each item of clothing he wears.
All of this harsh censure isn’t about the Saudis and their supposed “sportswashing” doesn’t hold water, any more than the PGA Tour can be criticised for its links to China, or US President Joe Biden can be castigated for fist-bumping the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Instead, it’s a smokescreen for what this isBut LIV can’t offer legacy. LIV can’t offer a place in history.
