Police allege Richmond woman performed yoga-inspired dance routine before break-and-enter into local bakery.
It’s not often that alleged burglars treat their victims to an interpretive dance-yoga routine, but according to, founder of popular Melbourne Phillippa’s Bakery, that’s exactly what happened outside the chain’s Richmond HQ in the early hours of March 3.
For those who want to cook their own, there is a recipe for hot cross buns in Phillippa Grogan’s cookbook, Home Baking. After a video, captured by the bakery’s security cameras, of the accused thief busting a few moves outside the premises at around the same time that — police allege — a person of the same description broke into Phillippa’s and stole an iPad, four pairs of bakers’ shoes, some croissants and in a nice seasonal touch, a few hot cross buns.
But it was the dance routine that made this effort stand out from the crowd, with Phillippa’s posting the video to their socials where it has developed quite a following. And it could get bigger, with the person alleged to be appearing in the video — a 44-year-old Richmond woman — set to face Melbourne Magistrates Court in May, charged with theft, burglary and going equipped to steal. No plea has been entered.
Grogan, for her part, was gracious enough to hope that the alleged burglar doesn’t get into too much strife and is able to return to their “proper vocation”.
