Victoria Police said officers were called to Kett Street in Lower Plenty about 6.30pm on Friday after reports one woman, aged in her 20s, had seriously assaulted another female aged in her 50s.
“Upon police arrival, members were challenged by a woman armed with a knife, who was subsequently shot,” police said in a statement. “That woman, who has yet to be formally identified, died at the scene. The second woman was treated by first responders but also died at the scene. “Police are not looking for anyone else in relation to this incident, and it is believed the parties were known to each other.” Homicide detectives will investigate the incident with oversight from the Professional Standards Command, the force’s internal ethics and conduct watchdog.
