Amazon's huge investment into the Australian retail market could see the American juggernaut claim almost a third of all online sales within 10 years.
Analysts found that the companies most exposed to a rising Amazon tide are JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman and Kogan. "We expect the online retailer to nearly triple its local footprint in 2021, and continue to forecast Amazon securing a considerable chunk of Australian retailing turnover."The new Amazon Robotics fulfilment centre - the largest warehouse ever built in Australia- under construction in Kemps Creek, Western Sydney.
However, as online sales soar they predicted lacklustre performance for the bricks and mortar stores of traditional retailers like JB Hi-Fi and Harvey Norman. Based on this, the analysts rated the value of JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman and Kogan stocks as "fair" at AUD 30.00, AUD 3.60, and AUD 11.50, respectively.
