The US media's failure to scrutinise Joe Biden's health is a 'huge let down to the American people, who need to know that their president is fit to serve,' former White House press secretary Sean Spicer has argued.
Speaking to Sky News Australia’s Sharri Markson, the former aide to Donald Trump said the media’s coverage and failure to hold the current administration to account was “an absolute travesty and a disappointment to journalism writ large”.
“These folks sit there on a daily basis and nod their heads with whatever talking points the White House regurgitates and sends out.” Mr Spicer, who served as White House press secretary under President Trump, said it was particularly concerning that the media had completely ignored questions about President Biden’s health.
This attitude could not be more different to the scrutiny President Trump received while in office. As Mr Spicer explained, when President Trump had a physical his doctor spent over an hour in the White House briefing room answering questions from the media.“This time the White House put out a very vague statement stating he had a ‘straight forward medical exam'.”
