Super Netball 2024: Queensland Firebirds, coach, Katie Walker , Bec Bulley, sacked, Lauren Brown , walks away, Roselee Jencke, who will coach in 2025New Firebirds co-coach Katie Walker says she was excited to step up at the troubled club who lost two coaches in the space of four days. The chaos means the club has now had four coaches in charge in the past four years – from Roselee Jencke to Megan Anderson , then Bulley and Brown.
“Any time you get to work with athletes like we have at the Queensland Firebirds, you’re always going to jump at that. I certainly did.”Walker said she was able to block out the “noise” surrounding the club before committing to coaching out the final four games – starting this weekend against premiership contenders the West Coast Fever.
“I want to do a really good job of the role that they’ve chosen me for over this next four weeks. I won’t be thinking any further beyond that until we get through this period.”Fox Netball’s Dylan Nexhip believes Walker is likely to put her hand up for the job full-time given this four-week period will serve as a “trial run”.“I think she’ll end up putting her hand up for it, absolutely.”
