Most Victorians believe that the Andrews government’s $15 million sponsorship deal with Netball Australia won’t boost tourism in the state.
A poll of more than 1000 Victorian voters conducted between November 3 and 6 forby Freshwater Strategy found that 59 per cent of respondents believed the sponsorship would have no effect on tourist volumes.
The poll also found that 46 per cent of voters identified as “very or extremely concerned” about the level of state government debt in Victoria and 11 per cent said government spending was their biggest concern regardingOne respondent described spending $15 million on the Diamonds as “unnecessary”. Another said: “I am starting to become concerned about the level of debt we are taking on as a state.
“For many people, the netball sponsorship was seen as an example of wasteful spending as they struggle with the cost of living, fuel and rent.
