South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas has strengthened his hold on power, with Labor having a resounding win in a state by-election on Saturday in the southern Adelaide suburbs seat of Black. It was the second by-election win by the ALP in South Australia in eight months and reduces the Liberal Party’s representation in the 47-seat lower house in the state to just 13 seats.
The SA Liberal Party, which is now led by Vincent Tarzia, put in the mayor of Holdfast Bay, Amanda Wilson, as its candidate for Black, but she was unable to make an impression with local voters. She did not live in the electorate of Black.
