A prominent anti-abortion campaigner who helped draft controversial proposed changes to South Australia's laws on the issue says she applied pressure to Liberal MP Jing Lee to abandon a deal with a colleague.

Anti-abortion campaigner Joanna Howe says she approached Liberal MP Jing Lee on the night proposed changes to late-term abortion law were debated in parliament, urging her to renege on a deal with a colleague.

Ms Lee had agreed to a pairing arrangement with Liberal colleague Michelle Lensink, who is on long-term sick leave as she battles breast cancer and who had vehemently expressed opposition to Ben Hood's private members bill. Ms Lee yesterday apologised in parliament to Ms Lensink for pulling out of the deal, saying she made an "unthinkable decision under pressure" and was partly motivated by "grave concerns" about her upper house pre-selection.

Professor Howe said she discussed the matter of Ms Lee's Liberal pre-selection, and that, during that discussion, she highlighted her own strong social media following. "I will target anybody who chooses to vote for injecting babies in the heart with potassium chloride after 28 weeks." "I am wondering now, who is putting pressure on Jing Lee to make this statement in the parliament?," Professor Howe said.
