A notorious anti-vaccination doctor could be disqualified from practising medicine for 10 years for helping parents avoid ‘no jab, no play’ laws.
Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency announced an investigation into Dr John Piesse in 2017, with claims he provided parents with documents that would help them sidestep the ‘no jab, no play’ and ‘no jab, no pay’ legislation.
Victoria’s ‘no jab, no play’ legislation requires all children to be fully vaccinated in order to be enrolled in childcare or kindergarten in the state, unless they have a medical exemption. Emily Latif, for the Australian Medical Board, told the tribunal that Dr Piesse had continually “failed to acknowledge the depth of his transgression” and there was a risk he would repeat this conduct going forward.Dr John Piesse has been outspoken against the ‘no jab, no play’ policy.
“You need a doctor’s letter of contrary indication in the right form, provided the doctor has got the qualifications required for ‘no vax no pay’, or is a registered medical practitioner for ‘no vax no play’.”
