Residents will now need to book a slot to visit the council's six waste facilities - with an MSP raising concerns about a potential increase in flytipping
South Lanarkshire residents will need to make appointments to use the area’s six household waste recycling centres from next Monday, September 2.
Appointments can now be arranged online ahead of the September 2 start date – but local MSP Clare Haughey has written to the local authority outlining concerns about the possibility of a rise in flytipping following the introduction of the new advance access arrangements. “There is no restriction on how many times a South Lanarkshire resident can visit the household waste recycling centre. Please make an additional booking if you need to make more than one trip if you want to bring more than one vehicle, entering the registration for each.”
She told Lanarkshire Live: “Local residents are worried that the new system, on top of other changes, could lead to an increase in flytipping – which is already a huge problem across Rutherglen and Cambuslang. She wrote: “I would be interested to know what monitoring of flytipping incidents the council intends to undertake to ascertain whether the new system has an impact on this anti-social issue.
