Even the most cutting-edge road design would not have saved 16-year-old Ryan Kimball's life. His devastated father wants motorists' behaviour change in Queensland.

Graeme Kimball says grief over the death of his 16-year-old son Ryan has taken over every part of his life.Queensland is headed towards one of its worst road toll s, with 205 people already killed so far in 2024.

He died in the back seat of a vehicle driven by a 17-year-old boy who lost control while passengers filmed the speedometer needling up towards 180 kilometres per hour. Research released today by national insurer AAMI named the Bruce Highway as one of the worst roads in the country for road crashes. The Childers to Gin Gin stretch of the Bruce Highway has a crash rate almost 10 times higher than that of the Hume Highway in New South Wales, according to the RACQ.ABC News: Russel Talbot"Some of these young 16 to 24-year-olds treat life as a video game," he says.RACQ head of policy Michael Kane says roadworks are not the end of the story.

Mr White believes vehicles should be defined as workplaces in legislation as well, so the training and health and safety rigour applied to a factory floor or mine site would also be administered on the roads. "I think a huge amount of effort going into how we educate road drivers for those long-distance drives."

"I think that the condition of the Bruce highway is an absolute disgrace and is at least three decades behind times. Having said that, there are a lot of drivers on the road that need educating," one listener said.
