The new president says there needs to be a 'conversation' about the number of jobs police are called out to, as domestic violence rates and attrition within the force soar.

The new president of Queensland 's Police Union says there needs to be a "conversation" about the number of jobs officers are called out to as domestic violence rates and attrition within the force soar.

"Last year alone, our police throughout the state went to 190,000 incidents of domestic and family violence," Mr Prior said. "The reality is, police are not social workers, we're not mental health professionals, we're not childcare workers," he said.He said his focus would be to defend the state's 12,500 police.

The inquest into the murder of Constables Rachel McCrow and Matthew Arnold and Alan Dare is in its final week, and is expected to finish on Thursday after hearing from three final witnesses and family statements."I want to hear from the coroner first as to what those recommendations are, and we will have a position on that. But I will say that my number one priority as president for the Queensland Police Union is the safety of our people.
