After producing a composed performance to take the first set, Barty looked destined lose her first set of the tournament in the second as the American rattled her to take a 5-1 lead.
She was presented her trophy by fellow Indigenous tennis great Evonne Goolagong Cawley, herself an Australian Open champion who is a friend of Barty. The 27th seed pushed Barty harder than she had been in the tournament, taking break points in the second and seventh games of the second set. Utterly dominant since her 6-0 6-1 first-round win over Lesia Tsurenko, Barty didn’t drop a single set all tournament, conceding a meagre 30 games in seven matches - just six more than Graf 33 lost years ago.
