Houston Astros' Yuli Gurriel reacts after striking out against the Baltimore Orioles in the fifth inning of a baseball game, Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022, in Baltimore. BALTIMORE — Only 14 hours had passed between the Astros’ 11-run comeback win over the Orioles on Saturday and the first pitch of Sunday’s series finale game.

It required two extra innings, but the Astros outlasted the Orioles to win 6-3 thanks to a four-run 11th inning, and returned to Houston having split a four-game series at Camden Yards. The Astros took a 2-1 lead in the 10th inning after Yuli Gurriel scored on a wild pitch to pinch-hitter Trey Mancini, who then doubled off the wall in left field. Jeremy Peña went to pinch run for Mancini at second base.

Yordan Alvarez’s sacrifice fly put the visitors back in front before Kyle Tucker’s bases-loaded walk and Christian Vázquez’s two-run single added long-sought insurance. Javier’s 76 pitches were the fewest he has thrown in a start this season. The Astros might have allowed him to keep going if not for a 46-minute rain delay that commenced between the sixth and seventh innings.
