Myer has appointed former Qantas executive Olivia Wirth as the new executive chairwoman of the department store chain with Ari Mervis headed to the exit after just four months in the role. Long-serving Myer’s head of stores, Tony Sutton, has been elevated to chief operating officer as the department store chain readies for chief executive John King’s exit in early June.
Wirth, the former head of Qantas Loyalty, joined the Myer board as independent non-executive directors last year alongside well-known businessman and long-time Premier Investments director Gary Weiss. The board shakeup comes after Mervis failed to secure retailer Mark McInnes, who took up a new role with billionaire Brett Blundy’s BBRC Worldwide overseeing his wide retail operations spanning Best & Less and minority stakes in Lovisa and Accent Group.
