Premier Dominic Perrottet has revealed 1,500 health workers are unable to work because they are either sick or in isolation - placing greater strain on the NSW health system.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Mr Perrottet announced an indoor mask mandate from midnight on Friday and density caps for hospitality venues from January 27.
