At least 30 people have been injured after an Air Europa flight was buffeted by severe turbulence, forcing the plane to make an emergency landing in Brazil.

Passengers on a flight from Spain to Uruguay have been buffeted by severe turbulence, leaving at least 30 injured and forcing the plane to make an emergency landing in Brazil .

Pilots managed to guide the plane safely to Natal airport, in north-eastern Brazil, with those injured immediately rushed to local hospitals by a fleet of ambulances for treatment. Local health authorities said the majority of those admitted to hospitals suffered minor injuries, with most being discharged following treatment.

Posting on Twitter, now X, a user who claimed to have been on the flight shared images from the plane following the incident, with broken panelling and exposed wires hanging from the cabin ceiling. One picture appeared to show a seat which had snapped following a heavy impact, hinting at the significant force buffeting the plane. Picture: Twitter/X
