At least one person has died with fears there may be multiple fatalities following a light plane crash in Sydney ’s southwest. Two light planes collided midair then crashed at Belimbla Park in Oakdale about 11.50am on Saturday. Two scenes have been established in the area. 7 NEWS understands there were reports of a “fireball”. Ambulance Paramedics and NSW Police are on the scene. “Emergency services are responding to reports of a light plane crash,” NSW Police said.
“Members of the public are urged to avoid Oakdale in Sydney’s southwest and surrounding areas.” Eleven NSW Ambulance crews are responding, including an aeromedical team, per the Daily Telegraph. A NSW Ambulance spokesperson referred a 7NEWS.com.au inquiry about the condition of the plane occupants to the police. Fire and Rescue NSW Superintendent Adam Dewberry confirmed just after midday that FRNSW was responding to the incident. Police urge members of the public to avoid the area.
