Mr Cannon-Brookes joins a growing number of Sydney-based wealthy investors buying Queensland tropical islands amid a domestic tourism boom.

Atlassian co-founder Mike Cannon-Brookes has joined the rush of wealthy Sydney investors buying up islands on Queensland’s Great Barrier Reef after snapping up one of the region’s best known properties, Dunk Island.show the 147 hectare freehold property opposite Mission Beach was acquired by Green Seaweed 1 as trustee for $23.65 million.Green Seaweed 1 is directed by Catherine Manuel.

The confirmed sale and settlement of Dunk Island through JLL and CBRE closes a troubled three-year chapter in attempts by former Rich Lister Peter Bond and his family to offload the property. In 2019, Dunk Island along with 200 properties at Mission Beach was purchased by investment company Mayfair 101, headed by spruiker James Mawhinney, with plans to create a tourism mecca.after Mayfair 101 collapsed, leaving investors owed tens of millions of dollars.Then in July last year, JLL’s Andrew Langsford and Nick Roche said they had sold Dunk Island to Australian private equity firm Upsense Media Capital.
