The loved ones of a Queensland father seriously injured in a motorbike accident in Bali have launched a desperate bid to bring him home. 7NEWS
to raise the money necessary to pay for Avaemai to be medically evacuated from Bali to hospital on the Gold Coast.Remuna Avaemai with his daughter Maeva and during his time in the army.She believes Avaemai’s chances of recovery will be better in Australia, where he can “hear our voices and feel our love”.
“We just feel if he’s back home, in his country, with his family, he’ll be able to pull through,” Sproule said.“With Remuna being so far from us and his family, we are finding it difficult with the doctors over there and to be able to be updated and understand his injury,” she said, adding she believed Avaemai was wearing a helmet when he crashed.
Medical Rescue Australia is working with Indonesian authorities to prepare for Avaemai to be evacuated.“He definitely needs to get back to Australia to get the right care,” said Jon Turley, operations director for the medical retrieval organisation.“We have a system here in Australia to provide that appropriate care to treat his injuries in the best way.”
Michael Bould, who toured Afghanistan with Avaemai, said he hoped people would dig deep for the former soldier. “We’re hoping since he fought for his country and put his life on the line - he’s been to Afghanistan - we can get people all over the country to chip in,” he said.
