It is understood the attackers assaulted three American holidaymakers on Monday about 2:15am as they walked near Vieux Port in the city of Marseille. Police sources told French publication Le Journal du Dimanche the Americans claimed to have been attacked"for no apparent reason" by the assailants. It comes more than a week after an Australian female tourist claimed she was raped by up to five men in Paris, days ahead of the Opening Ceremony.Paris prosecutor's office later said it was investigating the charge of gang rape"likely to have been committed on the night of July 19 to 20, 2024".Australians and athletes in France for the Games have been urged to be extra cautious when out and about and to avoid wearing green and gold when sight-seeing.
