The first repatriation flight from Lebanon has touched down in Australia after fleeing Beirut over the weekend amid escalating conflict with Israel.

Hundreds of Australians have returned Down Under from Lebanon on the first repatriation flight from Beirut amid an escalating conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.

Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong shared an emotional image to X of a joyous family arriving in Sydney with celebratory balloons seen in the background. "It was wonderful to be able to give a young Australian her first passport at Beirut airport so she could depart on one of our assisted departure flights," he said.

Thousands of Australians wanting to leave the country are registered with DFAT as they await their turn to hop on an assisted flight.
