Australia and France will seek to bolster relations around three key areas as part of a"new agenda for cooperation" unveiled as Prime Minister Anthony Albanese met with President Emmanuel Macron in Paris.
"To take the bilateral relationship forward, we agree to establish a new agenda for cooperation based on three pillars: defence and security; resilience and climate action; and education and culture," the joint Australia-France statement said. The defence and security pillar has four key points, including an agreement to"continue to stand together to defend the rules based order and the integrity of international law".
The two nations will also seek to"shape a new defence relationship and strengthen our collaboration and exchange on shared security interests". "We will support each other's deployments and conduct more joint maritime activities in support of the rules-based global order," the statement continued.
