Australia and Japan will form a space agreement to work together in the final frontier, as the two nations also look to deepen their defence and security ties in the face of a rising China

The Australian Space Agency, which was established in 2018, will develop a partnership with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency under the memorandum of co-operation. Mr Morrison said he and Mr Abe would discuss their "shared experiences in responding to the COVID-19 crisis" and ways they can work together to ensure "an open, inclusive and prosperous Indo-Pacific.

"We will discuss ways to coordinate our assistance in the Pacific and Southeast Asia to strengthen health systems, and promote economic resilience and recovery," Mr Morrison said.
