The way COVID-19 is going to be dealt with in Australia is set to change, with major changes announced in the federal government’s new 2023 coronavirus management plan. 7NEWS

The main difference will be in the way testing will be implemented, with Medicare-funded PCR tests requiring a referral from a medical practitioner or nurse from January 1.ver the next year testing requirements will be aligned with those used for other respiratory illnesses.

Access to antiviral treatments can also be provided to eligible individuals who receive a positive PCR test or RAT.“The National Plan provides clear guidance to the community and health care providers on how the Australian Government will play its part in managing COVID-19 into the future,” Butler said.

“We will continue to protect those most at risk while ensuring we have the capacity to respond to future waves and variants.”
