Nationals senate leader Bridget McKenzie says the next step to cleaning up the disgraced CFMEU is to make sure the “sons of Setka” do not rise again in the construction industry.Yesterday, Labor and the Coalition struck a deal to pass legislation in the Senate forcing the union into administration after a series of investigations by this masthead, The Australian Financial Review and 60Minutes revealed corruption and bikie infiltration from the union.
“It is good that the legislation passed, it’s the strongest possible action that we can take and make sure that we’re able to stamp out some of this really horrific behaviour,” Rishworth said.“It’s disappointing that it took so long but I think we can now get on with the job of cleaning up this union.” McKenzie agreed it was positive the legislation passed, but said it was now time to look ahead on how to stamp out corruption permanently.
