The minister told ABC radio this morning that the government had been required to release people “almost immediately” to abide by the decision. Up to 80 people were released so far, he said.“The number of people who have been released, that number is 80, all of whom are on appropriate basic conditions,” Giles told RN Breakfast this morning.
“From day one, the AFP and Border Force have been working closely with state and territory authorities while we consider all measures that may be able to ensure community protection,” the minister said.Giles said the circumstances depended on each person, and could include regularly reporting to police services and monitoring. The minister said the government was examining what the changes meant, for the future, but was still waiting on the reasons for the decision.
