Alarming new modelling prepared for the National Cabinet predicts Australia is on track to record hundreds of thousands of new COVID cases daily, as the Omicron variant tears through the community.

It forecasts about 250,000 cases a day by late January under a six-month booster regime with no mask mandates and all current freedoms maintained. The revelations come a day before Prime Minister Scott Morrison is due to meet with premiers and chief ministers on Wednesday to discuss responses to the Omicron variant.We’re going to need to continue to calibrate how we manage this virus and how we live with this virus in the face of Omicron
