German car giant has seemingly done everything, from mobilising the masses with the Beetle to becoming the world’s biggest carmaker – and now it’s looking to make history in Australia. To celebrate its 70th anniversary of arriving in Australia and to promote the launch of its ID.4 and ID.5 electric vehicles , Volkswagen has targeted a very specific world record – to draw the largest GPS image ever created by a car. The image in question will be a simple message: “70 years of VeeDub”.

A Volkswagen ID.4 driven by German duo Rainer Zietlow and Marius Biela set off on the journey earlier this month, which the brand estimates will see the EV travel more than 33,000km. All stages of the trip are being detailed online, with the crew so far completing “70 years o”, which has taken them through New South Wales, Queensland and the Northern Territory. The Volkswagen ID.
