Australians could start meeting friends in public spaces in a matter of weeks, though an exact timing on a return to normal socialising remains unknown, Chief Medical Officer professor Brendan Murphy has said.
He said even a small number of people abiding by socially distancing in restaurants is "likely" in the not-too-distant future. Though he said pubs and clubs "are a bit more problematic". Chief Medical Officer professor Brendan Murphy was confident exciting rollbacks are just around the corner for Australians. While those flying in from overseas will of course need to abide by a two-week quarantine period indefinitely, he said the government will be closing watching the situation at home and overseas. He said any rollbacks on COVID-19 restrictions will be possible due to the government's expanded testing regime as well as advancements in tracing.
