'Adapting to the new normal': NSW to review land management | alexsmithsmh CroweDM

NSW Environment Minister Matt Kean says there needs to be more hazard reduction as part bushfire management in nationals parks in order to respond to climate change.

"Last year we did one of the three highest levels of hazard reduction burning in the Blue Mountains on record and yet we've still seen about 960,000 hectares burn in bushfires in that area," he said."We need to use every tool available to avoid this sort of fire season becoming the new normal." Mr Barilaro said in November that not enough hazard reduction burning had been done in national parks to manage the fuel load prompting Mr Kean to respond: "I am not going to have people using the bushfires to push an anti-national parks agenda."

, in an exercise that is expected to hear intense debate between environmentalists and others over controlled burn-offs.
