The Australian Defence Force is being called in to deliver food to communities isolated by flood waters in South Australia's far north.
The Australian Defence Force is set to fly in 20 tonnes of essential food and supplies to Coober Pedy as SA's flood-stricken north prepares for more extreme weather in the next 72 hours.
Between 50mm and 100mm of rain is predicted but there could be up to 200mm, potentially causing more damage or preventing repairs to highways and rail lines to the NT and WA. The Stuart Highway remains under half a metre of water at Glendambo, preventing travel between Adelaide and the Northern Territory.
"Unless you need to be travelling in the north of South Australia, please stay away – this is a very dangerous situation," Premier Steven Marshall said. The SES says several truck drivers ignored road closures overnight and it's asked motorists to stay out of floodwaters.
