Sky News contributor Campbell Newman has called on Australian politicians to 'go forward [and] see what's going on' for themselves and not just “sit back…and be fed the information” about the nation’s devastating bushfires.

02/01/2020Sky News contributor Campbell Newman has called on Australian politicians to "go forward [and] see what's going on" for themselves and not just “sit back…and be fed the information” about the nation’s devastating bushfires. Mr Newman said politicians should “go out and fight for the information... and check [themselves]” so they can be abreast of the latest developments and conditions in fire ravaged areas.

This is because the reality of the situation “is often worse than people think,” he told Sky News host Chris Smith. Mr Newman also defended Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s handing of the current bushfire crisis, saying state premiers hold responsibility for dealing with the fallout from damaging blazes in their regions. “Whose responsible here, it’s not the prime minister,” he said.
