Energy Minister Chris Bowen said Australia's stressed energy systems were 'being very actively managed' but flagged residents would face a 'bumpy period' this winter after they were warned on Monday to conserve power.
Energy Minister Chris Bowen has warned Australians on the east coast would face a"bumpy period" this winter with the energy crisis threatening blackouts in two major states and thousands of residents told to conserve power.
But the crisis was averted after AEMO invoked powers under the National Electricity Rules and issued an alert to say the generators had"provided sufficient generation to cover the lack of reserve three shortfall". Mr Bowen stressed the situation was being"very actively managed" and he was in regular contact with the market operator state governments amid the warnings.
He then warned it would be a"bumpy period" for Australians this winter with the energy system under pressure due to a number of coal-fired power stations being taken offline, the drop in temperatures and the war in Ukraine."We can have confidence in our operators, regulators, working together with the states, there is a real spirit of cooperation in the state and federal table.
Further south, Sydney suburbs were plunged into darkness on Monday evening as temperatures fell across the Harbour City.
