Former Labor senator Stephen Conroy says Australians “should be a little bit cynical” about the promises in the budget as it is the last budget before the federal election.

“This is the last budget so punters should put their budget goggles on and know that the promises being made today are entirely about getting Scott Morrison elected,” he told Sky News.

“They not necessarily a good policy, they’re not necessarily prudent, it’ll be a whole bunch of more pork barrels they will rort along the way as they’ve been demonstrated to consistently.”
