Australians will not be forced to download the new COVID-19 tracking app however the government is encouraging people get on board to assist health authorities in navigating the road out of the pandemic. 9News Will you be downloading the app?
The app uses data from mobile phones to alert authorities of people who have been in contact with confirmed virus cases.In order for the app to function properly 40 per cent of the population needs to sign up however so far, the government has said they will not make participation on the app mandatory.loosen restrictions on social distancing and isolation"It is new. We get that. It is something different. But everybody has got a phone, over 90 percent of Australians," he said.
"It is about giving health authorities the opportunity to call you if you have been close to someone with a virus, or somebody was behind you, perhaps simply didn't know, perhaps an elderly Australian."
